Any vehicle older than three years old must, by law, have a safety examination. The test is in place to ensure your vehicle meets the minimum safety level.
The test can only be carried out by an VOSA approved person and consists of an in depth inspection of your vehicle, both externally and internally. If your vehicle passes the test, we issue a VT20 pass certificate, if your vehicle fails we issue a VT30 document. In some cases we may issue an advisory notice (VT32) on area that was't severe enough to fail but will likely need attention soon.
Your are obliged to have your vehicle examined every 12 months and a penalty such as a fine is likely in the event you fail to do so. If the vehicle is involved in an accident any insurance in place may be invalidated.
